The glaze surface of Shino ware is usually uneven, full of orange peel and pinholes. The cause of the orange peel effect is that the iron elements in the glaze, after heating and cooling, will present a shiny and moist "flame color" in some parts of the glaze surface. Meanwhile, since its surface is covered with holes called pinholes (also known as wormholes), this unique glaze surface with an orange peel texture is regarded as the hallmark feature of Shino ware. Shino cups are made by hand - throwing various old rock clays into shape, applying glaze, and then firing them at a high temperature of 1300 degrees Celsius. Due to the temperature variations in the kiln, the glaze surface of the cups will also show different color changes.
